Bet Shemesh Blue Sox vs. Modi'in Miracle
|
Gezer Field Home Field of the Modi’in Miracle and the Bet Shemesh Blue Sox
About 25 minutes outside of Jerusalem, you exit off of the Old Jerusalem Highway and start meandering up a two lane road. You pass vineyards and fields as you climb the crooked hill, catching a glimpse of the beautiful religious retreat that is on your right as you proceed to the mesa and get out of your car. A few dogs bark and you hear children’s voices squealing in a nearby yard on the kibbutz. And then you turn to your left and you see it, literally emerging in the middle of nowhere.
A baseball field, a true-to-life “field of dreams”, that has many distinctive features. Amidst the flora and the green farmland and the competing aromas, what lies ahead is, for the baseball-phile and the Israel-phile, the incarnation of Gan Eden – the Garden of Eden. As you sit beneath the shade trades behind home plate, you look over the left field fence and see a tel in the distance – ruins of King Solomon’s summer palace. Look over the center field fence and you see the Coastal Plains where the Maccabees encamped prior to the Chanukah revolt.
As it undergoes some retrofitting to accommodate the needs of the professional league, Gezer Field retains its bucolic serenity. Without question, it is the most beautiful environment in which to watch a baseball game, abetted by the knowledge that one is sitting in a kibbutz, the personification of modern-day Israel, while overlooking Biblical sites that reflect the history and traditions of days of yore.
Yarkon Sports Complex
Home Field of the Ra'anana Express and the Petach Tikva Pioneers The Yarkon Sports Complex is Israel’s premier baseball facility. Located in the middle of the Baptist Village in the city of Petach Tikva, every facet of the field is first-rate and a perfect place in which to watch a baseball game.
The Yarkon Sports Complex provides fans with a unique setting. Half of the seating is stadium style while the rest of the seating is a combination of picnic tables and lounge chairs. Surrounding the field is a small Baptist chapel and cottages for overnight visitors. Beyond the right field fence is an enclosed area used for a kids’ zone.
